The preamble of the United States Constitution is as follows:
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
Notice, the preamble states “more perfect Union”, not “perfect Union”. While the United States of America is not perfect, it is more perfect than other nations. It is easier to break out of one’s birth social class here than in most other countries. Men and women born into poverty can become world renowned surgeons or business moguls in this great nation. Citizens are free to question the authorities and request those in power be held accountable for their actions.
Every citizen has the right to vote and help select their leaders. We are free to pursue our dreams and live our lives as we see fit, as long as it does not impinge upon the rights and freedoms of others.
Our forefathers dreamed of and created a nation that allows its citizens many freedoms. Many brave men and women have fought and many made the ultimate sacrifice of giving their lives defending these freedoms that we often take for granted.
