Loving the surgical field, but having a strong desire for long term continuity with patients led Dr. Welsh into the OBGYN field. Obstetrics and gynecology provide challenge and diversity. He is passionate about assisting patients through all stages of their life, not just a single surgery. He also loves the fact that as an obstetrician he gets to play a small role in the most exciting of family events. Being able to restore normalcy to patients’ lives through small changes in birth control methods or minimally invasive procedures is another of the reasons he chose his profession. He absolutely believes in Texas Health Care’s slogan of Exceptional Health Care, Every Patient, Every Time!
LAURIE BURKE, DNP, RNWHNP-BC
The rigors of treating patients during his four years of Residency at The University of Oklahoma more than prepared him for the variety of patients in the private sector. The most complicated obstetric cases are often referred to The OU Medical Center. OU Medical Center is also one of the few hospitals which have an Open Intensive Care Unit, meaning that residents whose patients are admitted to ICU continued to be treated by the resident rather than
having a hospital ICU doctor. This provided Dr. Welsh with experience residents in other programs may not receive. During Residency he was presented with the Outstanding Laparoendoscopic Resident Surgeon Award.
Recognizing that patients’ active lifestyles pose a hurdle for healthy living, he appreciates the opportunity to council patients in healthy eating and exercise. Healthy living benefits one’s mental as well as physical health.
Excited to relocate to the North Texas area, Dr. Welsh is welcoming new gynecology and obstetrical patients including obstetrical high risk. Along with his colleagues at NTWHCA, he offers minimally invasive procedures.
Practicing what he preaches, Dr. Welsh participates in crossfit and weight training while eating healthy. His interests include fly fishing, participating in mission trips and hanging out with his two Flat Coated Retrievers, Cole and Odin.
